Trying to have a legitimate conversation about how Jewish people are affected by the christmas holiday spirit.

I love all the lights. I even enjoy some of the music. Well, until it's coming out of my ears....

I like that there are sales everywhere.

I also love pumpkin pie.

This fits within the ancient litmus test- "is it good for the Jews?"  Any celebration of x-mas that doesn't involve pogroms, I like.

I also like lights.
But  I try to remember that this is a blatant display of kefirah, something that should disturb most of us.

This season should be a yahrzeit memorial to innumerable kedoshim through the past 20 centuries of terror, torture and murder but instead I find myself singing along with 'jingle bells'.

Of course it helps that the corporate hijacking of the holiday has ensured that the season has almost nothing to do with any religion...

I heard of a big Rebbe who came from Israel to the US to visit his chassidim, on the way from the airport he passed by a Christian neighborhood, so the Rebbe said "ouch! I told you I don't need all the lights and the propaganda, I hate it. Nu, I'll forgive for that one, but why did you have to put all these dummies of my grand grandfather, the alter rebbe?? this is so disrespectful!"
