That means there's no reason to cancel it more than 37 days after the AF (until your next AF comes). Might as well keep it around till the next calendar year and get another $250 of airline reimbursement.

How long until the 4th night free refund is applied to the account? is it shortly after making the booking? or does one have to wait until the stay is completed?

Refundable airline charge. Credit posts at statement closing, so you have to have done before second statement closes.
