I transfer from my family members preferred to my Premier all the time and then to airlines. Why not get a SUB on Premier and keep preferred.
I understand that you can transfer, my question is if I can upgrade when needed?

5x on travel and dinning is pretty nuts but too bad about the 4th night. Saved thousands on expensive places like Amanpulo and Maldives. Just means I have to plan accordingly.

It's not 5x on travel.

It's 5x on airlines, and 3x on hotels and cruises, and 1x on everything else.

Not nearly as broad as CSR's definition of "travel."

That's still pretty good. But yes - travel would have been much better. At least you get 4th night free on some hotels. :)

Axing 2x entertainment is a bummer, although that doesn't apply to all. Points only worth 1˘, losing the extra 25% on airfare hurts too.
Memories last forever, make them while you can.

That means, for example, no bonus on car rentals, travel agency bookings, discount travel sites like Priceline etc (when doesn't post as airline charge), trains, buses, taxis/uber/lyft, tolls, and parking.

You sure airline means directly with airline? I agree that’s likely as I don’t see how they’d easily separate.

Am I sure? No, I haven't read the T&C of a card which was only leaked/announced today and isn't coming out until 2019 :)

But it says airlines, not travel. If things like Priceline and travel agencies count, then practically hotels would get 5x, too, which is clearly not they're intention.

5x on airlines isn't that useful, PP already has that. There isn't much added value here.

We can't write off OTAs/general travel not getting 3X just yet.  IIRC, the old Prestige never explicitly advertised 3X on OTAs, but they were included and mentioned in the fine print.

Citigroup escalates top card's dining, air travel rewards on Prestige
« Reply #1536 on: October 23, 2018, 12:50:53 PM »
1. Citigroup is boosting rewards earned to five points for every dollar spent on dining and air travel starting in January, an increase of at least 67 percent from the current rate.

2. The move comes amid intense competition among card issuers including J.P. Morgan and American Express.

3. "We continuously strive to enhance the benefits our card-members use and value most," said Chris Fred, who runs Citi's proprietary cards group, in a statement.

Citi has much better travel insurance than amex.

Could we expect to get a DDMS comparison of the new version Prestige (coming Fri) vs CSR?

Looks like It's better that thought to be. This is a quote from the T&C I got by email today Cardmembers will earn 5 ThankYou Points for each $1 spent on purchases at airlines and travel agencies
