It looks like there's no cost for the initial activation period, which is probably a year. To be on the safe side you should probably activate it with a VCN.

Looks like a good deal, a $55 drive for 5 dollars plus ten minutes of work.

very bad reviews about how it messed up computers and caused issues.
Sounds like allot more than 10 minutes of trouble to get a $50 drive.

here is one review from their web site

It killed all 3 computers I put this on so I spent all weekend doing systems restores. Even that was hell because the software left junk in the registry that prevented easy system restore..........Avoid at all cost

Wasn't planning on installing it on my regular computer, will use a dummy laptop or vm for that.

Walmart is having a great deal on Black Friday for a 1 tb harddrive I think it's like $40.
