depends on if u have a replacement cost policy or an actual cash value policy. If replacement cost your stuff is valued at the cost it would take to actually replace the item. If actual cost then they estimate what the value of the object was at the time of loss.

I got quote from Geico and Travelers, they were basically the same. Travelers has an option to add jewelry coverage for another 200 bucks which is basically the price of entire year. Geico don't see such an option. Is it important? Any advice?

If someone breaks in, jewelry is the first thing they will take. (And yes I am speaking from experience...)

Just spoke to Geico. They offered 197 for 1000 deductible. 267 for 500 deductible.

I was quoted for 25k worth of personal property. I added an additional 5k for jewelry.

If you have a auto policy with them also you get a discount. I would get $44 off making my total 223/y.

I got about $9K in the claim, b"h.

I also just came across the charge on my cc statement, and I realize I made a mistake. The charge was for $245 for the year (including the ring), not $125. I saw a bill for $125, that must either have been the ring and then the rest of the coverage was $120, or vice versa. I also have a $500 deductible, which I forgot to mention before.

Renters insurance must be more expensive on the east coast. I pay $140 a year including the jewelry rider for 20k coverage, 100k personal liability and $500 deductible.

Also I heard that my policy might be able to cover losses incurred while traveling like lost baggage and the like. Does anyone know more about what might be covered by renter's insurance?

Most policies cover up to 10% of your contents away from the premises.

Also every state uses credit to determine rate similar to auto insurance so while the rates do vary by state it varies more based on credit. The only state that doesn't use credit is MD.
