Dans Deals forum search
« on: August 24, 2010, 01:13:35 PM »
Whenever i put in my search terms in the search box, most of the time i get 0 results. only when clicking revise search in that new window does it find results. Also, after i do get results from the revise search button, if i put the same search terms back into the regular search box i get much more and different results.

Am i alone here?

The search engine is actually extremely smart and powerful.

If you’re on the home page the search engine will search everything on the entire forum.
If you’re in a specific board the search engine will only search that board.
If you’re in a specific post it will only search that post.
Easy as 1-2-3!
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Its not a fantastic search.

Implementing below the current search or instead would help:

Code: [Select]
<form action="http://www.google.com/cse" id="cse-search-box" target="_blank">
  <div>
    <input type="hidden" name="cx" value="partner-pub-7925127692422457:rlr45w-o3g4" />
    <input type="hidden" name="ie" value="ISO-8859-1" />
    <input type="text" name="q" size="31" />
    <input type="submit" name="sa" value="Search" />
  </div>
</form>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/cse/brand?form=cse-search-box&amp;lang=en"></script>

ok thanx but still leaves one problem open. Why would the revise search button (which im assuming search the whole forum since you not on any specific page anymore) give for example 4 results, and then another regular search from that page (which also should search the whole forum) give 12 results?

Is there a way to search a specific member's posts? Like I knew you had posted this before and was trying to find it. It may have been eaiser to just search posts that you authored.

Also, once we are on the topic, is there a way to search pms that i sent? I cant seem to find a way.

Perhaps the "revise search" searches only the "board" you are on.

The first one works. Dont know how i missed that.
The second one allows you to search your PM "inbox". I was asking about searching the PM "outbox"?

Interesting, that seems like a bug.
You can PM Eli and maybe when he has the time he'll be able to look for a fix.

It's not a bug, just the way the forums work. And I don't want to mess around with the code and possibly mess things up so we're just gonna leave it for now.
