Sports Handicapping
« on: November 14, 2013, 08:28:51 AM »
there was a topic about Survivor football pools a while ago. id figured we should start one for individual games. (to determine whether there is a halachic issue ask YLOR, as well as difference between investing in stock market and sports handicapping). Anyway i'll get it started with a pick for tonight:

IND -2.5 against Tennessee.

The difference is simple. When you invest in a stock you are buying a part of the business. Unless you are buying the stock for gambling purposes, there's no reason it would be assur.

You should stay away from something you know nothing about.

Just for the record the Lions opened as a 2 1/2 - 3 point favorite the same as the line is now. You might want to get a new source for your lines. Better yet can I bet against these lines? I will put 10k on a game and play the middle.

Online casino games are supposed to be launching this month within NJ (meaning they're supposed to be set up to only allow users that are logging on from within NJ). The thing that got the ball rolling was a ruling from the DOJ that the federal law only restricted sports betting, not casino games, so it's unlikely NJ will get sports betting (especially in light of the recent developments bentch posted).

After Black Friday (the poker world version, not the shopping version), there was no online gambling for those in the US. There are now some sites that work only for users within Nevada, and NJ is setting up the same thing. More interestingly though is that in Nevada, gambling is legal throughout the state. But in NJ, it's only legal in AC. So they have to host all the servers for the company in AC for it to be legal.

Not sure where he is getting his lines from. Colts went off at -3 to -3 1/2.
