Found iPhone 5S. Need Advice
« on: November 15, 2013, 09:12:48 AM »
So last night I was in a Mid-Town Manhattan store shopping and found an iPhone 5S with a lock code on. I spoke to the store who said no one called for it. T-Mobile said its an unlocked phone from France and that there was no way to track it.
I called Orange and they couldn't help me since I didn't have the phone number. I would like to do the right thing but am out of ideas. If anyone has please let me know.

If not, I would like to sell it  8)
I know the phone is unlocked and works in Israel. Any ideas on how I can go about doing this? The Model is A1457.
TIA!

They wouldn't or couldn't give me any information.

It's tupid that Apple hasn't found a way to turn this into a feature of owning an iOS device, would add one more unique reason to buy into Apple's ecosystem.

Apple added major changes to the find my iPhone feature in ios 7. IMO, it's now the best lost/stolen protection feature on the market.

But the user has to set it up and this guy neglected to? Poor loser (literally)...

Your a good man.

Don't let anyone here try to convince you otherwise.

I had a similar situation where I found a VZW blackberry. I called VZW, gave them the IMEI #, and they were able to contact the owner through that.

Did you check who is the SP of the sim in the phone? Maybe give them a call, and give them the Sim #, and they can look it up like that.

Appreciate that. I lost my iPhone once and it was a terrible feeling (and a major cost to replace!).

The SP of the SIM is T-Mobile and they were not able to give me any information.

They didn't have, or weren't allowed to?

There is no account associated to the iphone at all? Apple can't contact them?
Also try posting on Twitter or something. Maybe you will actually find the guy.

Stupid q's- did you try calling anyone from the phone book?

Did you check general/about to see if there's any other info?

Any email accounts set up, apps  that saved his username etc?

Figured they would be stupid q's just wasn't sure why :)

Some ideas i can think of-
Try to follow the methods of early workarounds in ios 7. I remember seeing that you were able to make phone calls with the device, if so, find out the phone number and try tracking it.

Or you can attempt to restore the device. If he has find my iPhone enabled, I believe it asks you to put in your password to the apple ID associated with his account. Email that address.
