Did prices go up?

Classic European train of thought. Let's imagine how the call went:

Hello, is this Cafe Rimon? Hi My name is Chuchem and I was wondering whether your restaurant was opening soon and if you know how much the Chicken Soup will cost? Also, are the tips obligatory or do I need to actually tip the recommended 10%?

With all due respect, this tipping business makes the USA Jews seem less Jewish then the European ones.

since no one asked for my 2 cents here it is: +1

the 1 thing I hate is when the restaurant automatically adds the tip here in the US and has it in small writing somewhere on the menu so when you get the bill and theres room for a tip you put 1 in so you end up giving 30% and the 2nd tip includes the amount of the mandatory tip. At least put it in large enough letters so a person can see it 1-2-3

If a place is gonna put on an automatic tip no probs but then they ought not to be giving you a bill that has a line for a Tip

and I happen to like the way its done in Europe you drop a few whatever by rounding up, America is NUTS when it comes to tips but then again at least over here they wont put bread on teh table and charge you if you eat it, even worse they charge you in Italty for using the napkin and cutlery they would never try that over here

the worst place is Vegas where you go broke even before you get to the Tables. Pull up to valet the guy opens the door and wants something,  a 2nd guy takes the bags out and he wants something, a 3rd guy takes the bags from the front door to the room and he wants something. hey why dont these guys just get a reg job and they wont have to go around with their hands sticking out. I do Self_park and that solves that problem

So I gues there are pros and cons to both ways

damaxer, are you in a bad mood?
All i asked was if the place is open and if they went up in price!
Rimon was quiet a good value, but most times when a place reopens they had enough time to renovate their pricelist as well. So i think it was a normal question.
But i am sorry, you dont think so.

You are right, the american way is. Who cares what the price is. I will put it on my creditcard, then I will use my second creditcard to pay my first one. Then I will refinance my house to pay my other creditcard bill. ;-)

I have to suggestions:

Why do only certain branches get tips.

If I'm happy I tip, otherwise, not.

so do I but its a part of price! so theers no extra line showing it. eg the pizza is $10 on the menu that includes the tip its not $9 then .79 tx and 1.00 tip for a total of $10.79 it will show up as $10 plus .88 tx a total of $10.88 so if you didnt see where it said on the menu Service included in the prices and theres a spot for it on the check you too would have added a 2nd tip. whats worse is you are paying tax on the tip as well since in my case the tx should have been .79 but since they figure the tax on the price they basically are charging you the tax on the tip as well.

it was good food but once I noticed what they were doing I havent walked back into those places

ive never had that, thats weird. if they add the tip generally, it shows up as its own charge. (but even then theres a lime to add tip)

actually its not that weird as alot of places in Israel have Service included but they dont hide it, but then again so is the VAT in the price over there and I believe in many places in Europe as well

Rimon doesnt include Service and they let you know that which isnt a prob to me

So Damaxer and family made it to the grand re-opening tonight. Place is nicer and slightly bigger. Menu is basically the same though they did add a few things and raise the prices a bit. Philly Steak sandwich was NIS 75

Would you mind sending over a Philly Steak sandwich to CLE? And some Ben & Jerry's while you're at it  :D
