Ive been using the mountek ngrove snap http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroove-Magnetic-Vehicle-Devices/dp/B00E9L0HGI for the past few months, its awesome.
When i had an iphone i removed the back cover (its only 2 screws) and put the thin metal plate inside the phone, now with my galaxy i placed the metal plate between the 2 layers of my phone case.

Why two devices?

Most phone holders require 2 hands to attach the phone, some work with one, but the magnetic one I have is by far the easiest to attach and detach the phone. Can place the phone on the holder while holding it with 2 fingers, and it doesnt require any fiddling or to be precise as to where place it.
Even the suction system the op mentioned in the other thread requires fiddling and force to attach/detach it.

My old Impala had a phone slot next to the cup holders on the elbow console. (Take that, those who think old Impalas are waaay not cool.)
My nifty new 2012 Toyota Sienna has no place for a phone!  I keep it in the cupholder with the candy wrappers, lists and used tissues.  Or lost in my pocketbook.  But I have bluetooth, so I can call and answer with it lost in there.
