Just to make sure I get the math right, because DW always has a fit when I come home with more than 25 boxes of cereal:

I misunderstood the original post.
Now I appreciate that each box of cereal is $3.
So, you need to buy 5 boxes, which costs you $15, to get 500 gas points.
The 500 points translates to $0.50 off one gallon of gas, up to 35 gallons, so that's $17.50.
The net is savings (or maybe "credit"  or "revenue"  would be a better word) is $2.50 for every 5 boxes of cereal bought.
That is, you buy 5 boxes of cereal for $15. That gets you 500 gas points (i.e., $0.50 per gallon * 35 gal = $17.50 savings)
I suspect that the limit is 10 offers per card (that's usually what is written in the T&C, but I don't have it in front of me right now), so that would be 50 boxes of cereal.

 the next time you will get gas it will deduct 2200 points for $2.20 per gallon X 35 gallons = $77

 - the cost of 30 boxes life is $90  = you are ahead with $15

Yes, that's the standard T and C. It's probably hard-coded so that you won't get more than 10 * 500 points = 5,000 points even if you buy more than 50 boxes of Life.
(of course, you could always get a second or third or fourth...card).

1) Gas costs more than $2.20, or your station will let you use 2200 points even though it costs less,

2) You are using the full 35 gallons each time.
