[DEAD] 11/23 Wideroe-United Price mistake

I did not read through all the posts so I apologize if this was discussed already.

A couple points to keep in mind.

1. The tickets that are being issued are not on United Stock. They are Wideroe Airlines e-tickets. United E-tickets start with 016. These tickets start with 701 which is the 3 number airline identifier for Wideroe. However, United does have an Interline Ticketing Agreement with Wideroe. This can affect whether any DOT rules or regulations apply.

2. This does not appear to be a fare loading mistake. Both Wideroe Airlines and it's parent company SAS or Scandinavian Airlines use Amadeus and Amadeus Altea for their fares and reservations. Everything was loaded properly into Amadeus. The glitch or mistake most likely happened with Wideroe Airlines Website and how it's software was communicating, pulling, displaying, and booking the fares it pulled from Amadeus. The site could of also been hacked to manipulate the fares as such.

I honestly do not know what rules would apply but I can not see how United would be forced to honor tickets that were booked by another airline incorrectly. It does not seem that United made any mistakes on their end. If a travel agency manipulated a fare and issued a ticket, the airline can cancel the ticket, as well as issuing the agency a debit memo. It appears to me that this is a similar situation.

I honestly don't know. You are a US customer but technically you did business with a European company that does not even fly to the United States. I don't see how Wideroe Airlines can come under US DOT regulations. I think it will be easier for United to simply cancel the tickets than go after a company that is owned by a fellow Star Alliance member. I do not even know what the Star Alliance, ICAO, or IATA rules say about such an occurrence.

This is fascinating and I am very interested to see how it will all play out.

Different Airlines have different policies. I have gotten an ADM along with a cancelled ticket from Lufthansa after booking a ticket leg by leg.

If an airline loads a fare without taxes and fees into the GDS systems and a travel agent issues the tickets, they are not responsible. It is the Airline's fault. When the El Al glitch happened, they simply called and said please stop issuing tickets and cancel the unticketed bookings as we made a mistake. If a travel agent wants to keep a good relationship with the airline, he or she will listen.

This i noticed at first as well, this means that United has no Regulation or responsibility to this ticket. imo

I hope everyone gets it my last 3 tickets to Israel were on price mistakes, ALITALIA $373, Delta $460, USairways $450

For anyone that is trying to cancel it seems you can only cancel once the ticket is issued. Before that I do not see a link to cancel and when I click the link it just goes to their homepage. But on the eticket email there is a link to cancel.

Anyone have any other luck?

Ok another thing... Wideroe WILL email you if the charge is declined! They even text you! I just got notified... and from that point you have 2 hours to use the CC form to update your card before your reservation gets cancelled.

It just happened on one of my reservations.

Well most agents can save you money on International Air as well as provide you with knowledge and customer service that a website can not.

Leisure travelers however are not the bulk of the business.

You can cancel the reservation on UA.com, and it will likely not ticket. But on the small chance that it tickets w/o a reservation (yes this is possible), its going to be a pain to get refunded. I guess there is always amex

I'd imagine they would jump at the chance to refund this type of ticket.

The whole entering the pnr to update the cc is a hoax.

Someone got notified that their cc was not working/authorized, so they followed the link that was sent to them and WALLA it ticketed 2 minutes later! But that's because the guys ticket was ready to be ticketed and so he had to do was update the cc.

No one got pushed up front, it was just some stupid n00b that didn't know what he's saying.

Got all confirmations and all charges are pending, now its time to decide what to keep lol
