I was told its the only way to do it. The ticket counter has to change the ticket, because at security it has to match.

Anyone know if I can bring a photocopy or does it have to be a certified copy?

Bert, it is not foreign currency fee, it is (I guess) a foreign transaction fee because it was done overseas even though in usd.

May not be in their interest to comment publicly on it, as it is just another in a series of glitches, and they're anyhow obligated to honor them.

Going through back channels and checking out legal issues
Its not a UA ticket, so UA cant cancel them. They can honour, debit WR for YQ or convince WR to cancel.
