Student accounts, while generally free, will mostly get you nothing.
Chase is great, 25k bonus on both personal and business and 1mile/$1 spend on the business card.

I have and recommend both BankDirect (1 AA mile for every $10/avg monthly balance) and Bank of Internet (free checking that pays interest, refunds ATM fees charged by ATMs, free bill pay, etc.)  B of I is nationwide but headquartered in San Diego, so mailing deposits in are quick and easy.

With a Chase account you can deposit or withdrawal money from external accounts at 3rd party banks very easily.

Bank Direct is great for keeping money in an account and earning AA miles during low interest periods like we're in now!
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

how easy/hard is it to make deposits and withdrawals?

Is the account we are talking about the one that says there is a $15 monthly fee if your balance is under $2500? http://www.bankdirect.com/products/checkingmileage.aspx

Most banks will give a student a free checking account, you probably want to use the one which has the closest branch or ATM to you.
In Crown Heights most people (or at least OT/770 bochrim) have Bank of America simply because it's across the road!

chase is great !

Chase has a fee if you have under 15K in the account, BOA has long, long lines in CH, as oppose to Chase. Both of the above have excellent websites, I prefer BOA though as it has an option to transfer money to a friend, free.

Apple has free checking but they have a stinky website and have the chutzpah to charge for it!

Short and to the point.
