Because her chiyuv kiddush only starts when her husband's does.
Every gerrer shteibel in the world has coffee before leining. Chocolate too, IIRC.
Presumably no chiyuv kiddush yet.
I had a thought that you can make coffee on kiddush since it's Chamar Medina, and you can make a mema nafshach kiddush. Would help  in the Lakewood kollel as well. Any thoughts from the poskim? @aygart

  You may need " bmakom seudah" which requires cake. See however Igros Moshe for extended discussion on this.
