Is the Nusach Ari davening much shorter or is there something I'm missing? What can you do for 8-9 hours exactly?

Even so (with everyone looking over their shoulder to make sure they don't finish before the guy next to them), that only accounts for an extra 20 minutes x 2 =40 minutes.  I still don't get where the extra 4 hours go.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

It doesn't seem like your familiar with the BMG "dining room" crowd.

Its not the regular BMG your thinking about, with all types of people. Its a very intense davening and only people who want that kind of davening go there.
There are other choices for those that prefer less intense atmosphere/davening.

Anybody who goes there knows what they're getting in to.

Well it was just me and the rabbi until like 10:30 and we were just doing at are own pace and then few ppl came so I guess I can call it a small break. - he spoke to them for a bit
Then the speech was like 30 min!
Then i (the chazzan) took a little time with piutim since we were gonna skip the rest of chazoras hashatz
