He's basically saying that all is fine and well until you get into serious medical issues, says he had a accident and got nothing as of now, they're refusing to pay the hospital bills and he needs surgery that they only approved $10k for but the doctor he was recommended wants $30k
What does a standard cheaper insurance pay? United Healthshare pays a certain amount above Medicare I believe. It’s not made to pay for any doctor that you’re going to want.

they pay up to 600 per year for regular checkups.

Sounds great, but since it’s not actual insurance, and you have to lay out the money with no confidence that you’ll ever get paid back, odds are likely that you’ll skimp or second guess when you probably shouldn’t.

Also says that subconsciously when you have a health share you try to not go to the doctor as much as possible which can cause undiagnosed things to become serious, and that's what happened to him.
Those with high deductibles have the same reluctance. It's not isolated to healthshares.

I compare it to a catastrophic insurance plan

High deductible insurance differs a bit in that the more expensive the need the more likely you are to use it, as you may anyways meet the deductible. While a health share the more expensive the need the more concerned you are that they won’t pay you back.

In general though, if you are taking a high deductible plan you should budget for your expected out of pocket costs while knowing there’s an upper cap, makes it easier to stomach as a sunk cost.

I compare it to a catastrophic insurance plan

That’s probably the last thing it should be compared with.

a bmi of 240 and lower is fine.
That is 5'9" and 265LB, most people would be fine.

Any data points, or things they didnt cover?

not true.
I was well under that and didnt.
They didnt approve until I went to the Dr. and ordered every test known to man. Than when I did that it was still not enough because I have to go for a follow up visit and get more tests etc.
Mind you this all had to be paid out of pocket, and "if you get approved will be counted towards your deductible" supposedly.

EVentually I gave up and just got insurance through the Marketplace for cheaper. Much higher deductible but at least it works.
