Weekday Booze
« Reply #21 on: May 30, 2011, 02:08:28 AM »
When I was in yeshiva, there was no shabbos booze and weekday booze. Any booze I owned I drank anytime I wanted.

But my father has this mishegos, that he only drinks his scotch on shabbos. I have basically adopted this also, so now I need to have weekday booze and shabbos booze.

Now, I like bourbon just as good, so I would be fine drinking it on shabbos, but if I did, then I couldn't drink it during the week, and then what would I drink. I could drink rum, and I do (Belize Travellers One Barrel Rum), but you can't only drink one thing on 6/7ths of the days of the year.

So I'm drinking Elijah Craig right now. At 2:07E/1:07C/12:07M/11:07W. Which is a long time to drink for.

Well is this question for david, jackness or ashero?
Either way if you ever happen to be in ny (and I have leftover) I have a nice bottle of scotch we can drink during the week.

Care to be more specific about what you consider a nice bottle of scotch?

Personally I'm more of a Vodka guy.

What's a good bottle? 18 year? 21 year?

Looks like it's going to have to be Dan's house. CLE is closer than LGA anyway.

Would a Japanese whiskey fall into the "Scotch" category? Obviously it is not and cannot officially be defined as a scotch, but it is more similar to scotch than to other whiskeys and is considered by many to be scotch…. If you get involved you will find that there are some rather interesting and tasty bottles to be had….

Another bonus of being a vodka drinker, vodka doesn't get that expensive.

Examples?

I love Sapporo, a great Japanese beer :)

Yamazaki, delicious - especially the 18yr. A bit pricey though, recently the price has gone up evEn more.
Karuizawa, incredible as well. Price is also a bit steep and the good bottles are becoming harder to come around.

If you truly appreciate scotch you will love both of these. The tastes are rather similar to scotch but an educated pallette will notice a difference.

They are both aged in sherry casks which may be a problem to some....
