Because anyone can tell if it says it on the label. If you're looking at a list then you're looking for more info, so therefore "only includes Scotches that are certified and/or are known to not have any contact
with wine or wine casks."
meaning - unknowns are not recommended, in contrast to their actual policy (as a certifying agency) of it having to be on the label, which AFAIK is based on the IGM.
CRC does a lot of research into stuff, and the Chicago Kollel published a book on sherry casks, which has a lot of interesting research as well.
