I was about to suggest a day trip lesson sometime this winter!
I was thinking something more local in the northeast but FL should work for me.

Which tripod do you recommend for the Nex-6 that I would be able to take on a hike?

I'd love to do a seminar...

The Everglades, however, happen to be a very bad place for one. It's very inaccessible (only one road - everything else is by canoe or airboat), the marsh is a very difficult landscape to work with photographically, and the top attraction - birds - require long, fast, $4k+ lenses to do properly. Definitely not a very conductive place for beginners. If something I'd do Tampa (sunset on the Gulf is beautiful) or something a bit closer to home.

Sounds good to me!
The Sheraton CLE Airport is $213 with tax or 4K SPG points. Not a bad value for your SPG and you're a 30 second shuttle or 3 minute walk from the terminal. Without bags you can roll out of the hotel at 7:20 and be fine.
