The second part of Exposure Basics is almost ready to go live, and I will be posting a "Composition Basics" right after (still before the DO). If there's still time I hope to post a basic filter lesson.
Would love to here critiques on my Banff photos, composition, how they might be better if I leave my Auto comfort zone, etc.

Doesn't look like I'll be able to push these out before we meet (too busy with the Delta deal :D).

Guess it'll have to be in person instead :D.

Fishy do you have any Canon lenses?
Right now I only have the kit 18-55 lens. I'm probably going to get the 75-300 in time for the trip but I haven't decided 100%. Would you by any chance have any others I can try out?

Do you have any more triggers and/or 58mm filters? I'm having trouble deciding on a trigger and I might want to try and avoid buying all the filters right now...

Nope, Nikon only. I'll see if I can borrow something, but in reality I don't think we'd be using long lenses too often.

I'll see if I could get some more filters, I think I'm all out of 58s now after getting for the other guys. I'll see tomorrow.

Trigger is no problem.

Snow, for sure. You tell me which of the two pictures are more interesting...
Well of course a picture of a lake and trees is more interesting than a parking lot :)
The reason I questioned it is because I did search a little a couple of weeks ago, trying to find pictures of Cuyahoga Valley in the winter but I couldn't really find much that was particularly interesting. (Probably because I didn't spend enough time on it and don't know where to look :) )

Nope, Nikon only. I'll see if I can borrow something, but in reality I don't think we'd be using long lenses too often.
What would be ideal for additional lens(es) for this trip?

I'll see if I could get some more filters, I think I'm all out of 58s now after getting for the other guys. I'll see tomorrow.
I'll probably end up buying them, I'll have to decide for sure by about midday tomorrow so I can get them in time.
If I would get only one ND should it be the 3-stop or 8-stop?
(p.s. I assume it's a mistake in the product description on Amazon where they say "An ND8 filter reduces the amount of light by 3 stops.")

My point was more the feel of the picture than the subject. In any case, I've seen a fair amount of great winter pictures from the area and have a shooting list 3 times as long as we could actually cover. :D

What would be ideal for additional lens(es) for this trip?
18-55 would be good for 90% of the time. Otherwise a longer zoom, maybe a fast prime (50mm f/1.8 ).

I'll probably end up buying them, I'll have to decide for sure by about midday tomorrow so I can get them in time.

1- Also keep in mind that nothing ships on Wednesday.
2- 3-stop is more versatile.
3- It's actually correct. ND2 is 1 stop, ND4 is 2 stop, ND8 is 3 stops, etc. It's quite nuts actually, ND filter designations.

I see. I must've misread your ND primer...
So 0.9 and ND8 are the same thing...

Yes. As is 2.7 filter factor ::)...

The ND8 would be the X rating.

Would I be "penny wise and pound foolish" by saving myself $10 and getting the Tiffen rather than Hoya ND?

Do you think if I ordered from B&H in the morning I'll get it in time? Aren't they shipping from here in Brooklyn?
I can't find a Hoya CP on Amazon that's prime-eligible...

Good, I'll do that.
I'd rather give them the business anyways.
