Aahh... I think Dan mentioned this in the photography master thread once, I was wondering what these outings were that he was referring to. I don't usually wander outside of the Tech section so I have no idea what goes on elsewhere. :)

I'm not sure it stands for anything (it might), but it is anytime forum members get together outside of the forum, be it for lunch or a meeting. Without knowing anything more, my guess would be it is when some of us get off our butts, actually go AFK and DO something (e.g. photography lessons).

Ha! You mean you people don't live in my computer screen? PROVE IT!

Considering that this is going to be a sunset shoot, Bear Mountain is really on the wrong side of the river. The other side will have much better light and views.

That's why I'm thinking we should do Hudson Highlands State Park instead. It's on the other side of the river, a couple of minutes north of the Bear Mountain bridge (it's straight across of West Point).

We start with Indian Brooks Falls, which is a nice waterfall a short walk/hike from the parking lot. We'll be able to try different compositions and experiment with getting the silky water look with slower shutter speeds.

Some example pictures (the trees will likely not be this green this early in the season, though):

Better picture (non-embeddable)

For sunset we'll head over to the Constitution Marsh Sanctuary, which is right down the road. It's a large marsh and bird sanctuary overlooking the Hudson with a beautiful background of mountains. There are boardwalks throughout, and the sun will set right over the mountains and reflect in the water.

Sunset is at 7:49, but the trails close at 6. I've arranged special permission from the Audubon Society for our group to stay after hours and have the entire place to ourselves.

Some pictures:

How does one move up the list? Seems like those who luckily got their names on the list when the wiki first posted are eternally at the top of the list, while us larry laters are at the mercy of the early birds deciding not to go.
As far as the list, I'm really not sure how to go about it :o... Maybe something like people who've never attended have priority? But then how would someone learn more advanced topics?...
Was there ever a maskanah with this? is it just staying at the order of getting on the list?

Can we get confirmation from those at the beginning of the list if they're attending? I know my chances are very slim, but it'd be nice to know for certain...

Nice!

Aw, if it was really in Bear Mountain (where I frequent weekends with my family) I was going to "just happen to be there", whether I was on a list or not. But now you had to go and make it exclusive. :)

@SF, what time do you imagine this will take place from-until?

Probably something like 6:30ish-8:15. Once the twilight starts around 8, there will be nice views and opportunities from Little Stony Point immediately to the north. If people are in the mood we could spend a bit of time there afterward too.

If people want it longer or shorter that's fine with me.

So sunset, not sun rise, yes?

So... who's coming in the end?

I think we should meet up over there around 5-5:30. I could take 3 people (4 if you want to squish into the back seat) out of Brooklyn (BP), leaving around 3:30-4.
