ok so now how did you convince them to change from stopover to connection. i tried to do the opposite to no avail. is it just old fashioned harrassing?
First you can just keep calling. That's how I got an over 24-hour connection I had in LHR changed to under 24 hours. Then again when it went into queue for approval it got put on hold but they have been because they realized that I had 2 stopovers in Hong Kong. After that got taken care of my old flight out of LHR was no longer available so they reissued the ticket.
Basically every time you make a change even if the phone rep doesnt know the rule and allows the change it still needs approval in the queue to get reissued, so it's a bit of a dangerous game. But I played it myself a number of times.
When weather cancelled my BA flight and they completely rerouted me it got held up in queue as they didn't make the change as involuntary for the queue team.
This past time the agent was familiar with the rule, but basically there were no options to go from YYZ-LGA-CLE late at night. In which case instead of 6 hours to connect you have 24 hours. The agent argues that because I didn't take the first available flight out of YYZ the next morning that I wa making a stopover. I argued that once the 6 hour rule was not in play a 24 hour rule was in play and I could take any flight within 24 hours and have it count as a connection. Therefore I should be allowed to change it to a 3 hour connection as well.
Her supervisor agreed to make the change and put in notes to the approval desk to allow it.
