Has anyone tried contacting google to ask if they can send you a code? how do people get these codes?

I got it for a friend who was thinking of buying the code, when he told me I figured id sign up for one and gt the code about 2 weeks later- no reason for you to pay someone for it if they are still giving them out for free. Just not sure yet if mine is being used or not.
