Bringing frozen food into Mexico
« on: December 14, 2013, 11:04:55 PM »
Has anybody ever done this? Going on a trip in a few days and don't want my frozen double-wrapped meals confiscated at customs on the way in. Please advise.

Sorry to hear, which airport did you fly into? Do you have to report the food? Maybe if its packed away in the suitcases it would be safe?

They run everything through a xray machine. If it goes through there, you're toast.

We went to CUN.

In PVR now...can't say anything about meat, but we decided to bring lots of packaged foods. In terms of kosher food, Cosco has a reasonable selection of American hechshered food. Also, if you don' keep Chalav Yisroel, there are yogurts / sour cream / other dairy products with local hechshers.

Was there years ago. I packaged food myself and froze it. Mostly had chickeny types of food with sauces. Even disguised meatballs. Told the guy it's chicken balls but with the sauce it looks dark.  He showed me a tin he confiscated that said meal mart and had the word meat in it that someone crossed off and wrote chicken on it. He let me through with everything
Btw kosher bread was hard to find.

I wasn't stopped at all. Meat and chicken went right through.

you got lucky

if it goes through xray there is a good chance they will dump.

if it doesnt go through xray, you still need to worry about the dogs that they walk around with sniffing peoples bags......YOU MUST GET VACUUM PACKED MEAT.

from what i can remember, chicken is no problem.

Went to ACA years ago and brought Noah's Ark frozen meals without issue.

I have been to both Cancun and Cabo. Both times we brought a Foreman and a sandwich maker (one for fleishigs and one for milchigs). Both times brought frozen chicken nuggets and cutlets (I think the brand was taam tov), frozen hot dogs, frozen deli, and frozen cheese.  we had no problem with the x-ray.  The nerve-racking part was pressing the button for inspection after the x-ray , both times we got the green light so had no issues.
