Yup. I'm already using TurboTax for at least 10 years. Approx 79.95 for both, state and federal returns. Love it. And I do have W2's from more than one employer, plus 1098s for mortgage interest, etc.

If someone worked here in the US got a 1099, his wife and 2 kids live abroad (US citizens). can he file as married and use them all as dependents? If yes how. TIA

Any US citizen HAS to file even if they live somewhere else, on world wide income
and they file Jointly if married
they only things they cant get is the EIC

Have been doing my own taxes for years, now at the point where I'm wondering if I would benefit from having a CPA handle it for me. I want to take my 2015 return to someone and have them tell me whether I got everything or left money on the table. How do I find someone who would do this? Would prefer not to use a local heimish guy (for privacy concerns).

You ask around for reccommendations. Along with finding out if the guy knows his stuff, you ask if he's discreet, and maintains the customer's privacy.

That's fine, and I'm not completely opposed to that, it's just not the first place I want to look. What I'm wondering is if there are any well known places that are impersonal and one can make an appointment to get this type of advice.

If you just have a w-2, a few 1099s, and some other basic stuff I doubt there will be a big difference between doing it yourself or going to a CPA.

The last thing any accountant wants to or will do is disclose your personal financial info to anyone. Are you worried when you go to a Dr that they will tell others about a medical condition? I think your fear is irrational. And similar to your doctor, the accountant has seen it all. He has seen the guy who everyone thought is rich and is really dirt poor and vice versa. I doubt that you have anything earth shattering enough to get him to start gossiping about you in shul.

You have to admit that there are both accountants and doctors that say things they shouldn't. Even indirect comments, " He can afford it." "He shouldn't shovel his own walk." is saying too much.

Where I work (big 4) confidentially is stressed over and over. We can't even say who are clients are much less anything about them and if info is even accidentally shared there are a lot of very senior people who will get involved.

That being said I wouldn't want my neighbor doing my taxes for the sole reason I don't want him seeing my finances, not that he might tell someone.

Personally I couldn't care less.
Maybe I'm just desensitized after seeing thousands of peoples incomes but you get to a point where income is just a fact of life. Some people make a lot, some less, and some even less. Obviously you don't broadcast it because from both ends (half the people will be jealous that you make so much and the others will look down on you for making so little) there's no gain and much to lose, but if a professional needs to know your income? Big deal. Every school asks you to fill out income on lunch forms etc.

I can imagine that if some local tax preparer found out that yossel the shoe maker was making zillions that no one knew about, im not sure confidentiality would be guaranteed.
Same thing if boruch the gevir was really drowning in the red, it could slip out..

So if not your neighbor, another Yid that sends his or her kids to the same schools as you do. It is a mitzva to do business with another Yid, and I think it is always better to do business with Yidden that share in my values, will support similar moisdos, etc.
