I want to use QB online, but fwiu there is no way to upload a file with JE.
I've heard that there is a solution to download
QB trial version on a desktop, leave it unregistered, and link it to qB online to upload JE.

Anyone with experience with this, or at least can tell me if this even makes sense?
Try it out? On two trial versions?

Also there is a QuickBooks thread

Ok, its definitely a thing per this - If you need a QuickBooks Desktop trial to export or import into QuickBooks Online, you can download it here.

But I cant find anywhere basic instructions on how to set this up. Everything I google seems to be about importing all of existing company data into online from desktops. Not about a new file online and using a trial do import Journal entries going forward.

Excuse me not posting in the QB thread.. I might repost this there

If I need a company to issue me a 1099 for 2015, besides for the $100 (maybe) penalty would there be any other reason the company wouldn't want to, or can't?

If you actually worked for them and they actually paid you then there should be no reason that they shouldn't want to issue it. It would sound fishy in such a case.

Well asking for a friend:

He worked for them, received commission, did not receive a 1099, yet claimed the income on his schedule c anyways.

The company did not issue a 1099, and now does not want to after the fact. I am trying to figure out why not. I told him just the opposite, it would most probably be better for them to issue him one.

Just wanted to know if there would be any other reasons... (Before I contact them)

Don't forget this is from 2015, already files forms.

Why would it make any difference to your friend if he got a 1099 or not? One has to report income received even if no 1099 is issued.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

His embassy is requesting it.

He reported it.

My concerns were regarding the company side. What would their concerns be

Why would it be a pia.. especially now when they are preparing the ones for 2016 as well.

They should already have the numbers. Shouldn't take much time.

I was talking on an IRS or compliance standpoint.

Here's my question:
A student who finished their undergraduate in in 2 years, and is in graduate school for years 3 and 4, can they claim the American opportunity student tax credit for the years in graduate school?
I'm aware of the lifetime credit, but obviously the opportunity credit is better since it's partially refundable.

The IRS website doesn't mention anything about graduate or post graduate, it only mentions the first 4 years of post secondary school quality for the opportunity credit.

I searched online and found conflicting opinions, anyone have any experience with this?

I'm going to a conference in ogg. What exactly can I tax deduct? Can I deduct the food in bringing? How about activities when I'm there?

Any reviews on freetaxusa.com for a normal individual return? I've always used other online software by big box (HRB,  TT) but would not mind saving on the cost. Are they just as good?
I'm an optimist; but only because life isn't going to give me any other good choices.

To calculate Roth 401k % deduction and employer match... Do I use the percentage from gross wages or net wages?

I'm no accountant, but I'm pretty sure its calculated off gross wages.
