I believe it could be true, but its a bit misleading that it didn't say he told the Rabbie who he is, so it implies that the Rabbie knew it by Ruach HaKodesh.
Then you have no clue who the Rebbe was, haters will be haters, there's no need to prove anything.
My immediate family alone has numerous stories that can only be attributed to something otherworldly and holy, and there are thousands of such stories.  V'ain kan hamakom.

@Dan
I highly respect the Rabbie, and I'm quite familiar with chabad, (although I'm not a Lubavitch guy)
I learned and completed the Likutei Amorim of the Tanya Zatza"l, but still, I don't believe he had divine communications with....

No reason to call me a hater if I dont believe it.

If that's the case, than, with all respect, I don't believe the story.
But I tend to believe its a mistake.
what ever the case is they don't say such stories about me or you
But I'm still proud to be from clev!

Ever Yom Kippur and not even a lehavdil. Nice.
I think I'm officially done with this thread.

Honest truth I am not sure what to believe. I know the Rebbe was a VERY VERY holy man and definitely had a close connection to God. Are all these stories 100% accurate? I honestly don't know. They are too many personal accounts for them to be totally made up.I certainly would never C"V never compare him to the others mentioned above.

However one thing I don't understand (and despite the fact you (@Dan) said you were done with this thread I would appreciate if you would humor me with a response) is does saying you don't believe in these stories make you a bad person? Does it make you a Kofer? And why are these stories still so important? Why are we still telling these stories over at Chabad houses around the world as a method of Kiruv and not telling stories about the chesed of Hashem (not saying these stories aren't important, just why do they continue to play such a central role and superecede other things)? I understand that when the Rebbe was alive he was a point of connection between man and God and for the a lubavitcher, the most important one. However, now that he's gone-is that still true? What role does he continue to play?

I ask all these questions respectfully and would truly appreciate a direct and honest answer.

I know you asked dan but here's my point of view: at least in the Chabad Houses I've been to, to the extent that they do say stories of the Rebbe, it seemed to me that the focus has shifted from "Baal Shemske" miracle stories to stories highlighting the Rebbes care for every Jew, or the Rebbes wisdom and sensitivity. It's been a while since I heard a story in the style of the OP.

You didn't answer my question at all. I don't fully understand why they tell those stories either

If it can inspire a Yid to add in his love of fellow Jew and man then what's wrong? Other Kiruv orginisations don't try to bring lessons through stories?

I'm assuming then that this is the point of your question.
To answer with a question: What role does Moshe rabeinu, Dovid Hamelech The Avos, The Tanaim and Amoraim etc. etc. etc. play now that they are "gone"? Obviously in a Chabad House you'l hear most about the Rebbe, simply because the Rabbi/Shliach feels a close connection to those stories and to that personality

This story didn't bring love to a fellow Jew.
Just the opposite.
It caused a Jew to call his fellow brother a 'hater' just for not believing the full extent of the story.

I am gonna take Dan's lead and cease my participation in this discussion as I see it won't lead to peace amongst Jews. Perhaps we can continue at another junction
