If a round-trip costs the same much as 2 one-ways then it's cheaper to order a new car for the way back.
Probably does not. There's the $2.55 initial fee on UberX (more on other types).

But having a car waiting "on the meter" for 20 minutes will probably negate that.

Exactly. A 20 minute wait (if possible. According to a clueless driver I just asked, it's not) could cost.

I've had a car wait (granted, not even close to 20 minutes), so I would say DROCUD.

a 20 minutes wait would be $7 in NYC

If someone would be to travel to a market where fares are more expensive and back, it might be much cheaper to have the car wait 20 minutes.
Also, in some markets (like NYC), Uber can assign a new trip to a driver before he ends the trip, and the driver gets penalized if he doesn't accept it, so ideally you should change your address when you are at least a few blocks way from your first stop.

How can they assign a new trip if the current rider can still add on destinations ?

I don't make the rules, I just know from riding Uber 3+ times a day. The new rider will see "driver is finishing a ride".

ETA: Lyft started doing the same, but they currently have the option to add a stop to your trip before even getting in the car.

It pays to have the driver wait if you're making a few local stops when the minimum trip is $8 to start. I've done it a few times.

Uber has to add that option. It's nuts

The question here was on a 20 minutes wait, no question that it's worth it for short stops.

There are a few reasons. My main reason was I wanted to make full use out of my $20 Uber credit. And stupid Uber only lets you redeem it on one single trip.

Read a few pages and not mentioned in the wiki...

If I have a few Uber promos in my account, (ie: 50% off with android pay, $20 off next ride etc.) how can I chose which to apply?

Guy couldn't find me at EWR.. he had to go around again so it was more than 5 min after I ordered.

Anyway, he calls me to say I'm here again, then casually asks me for my destination... Promptly canceled ride and billed me $5 for ME being more than 5min late!

How do I get even??

If you go to "your trips" in the app, you can request a refund. They'll give it back to you in uber credit.
