For the record, I saw somewhere that in old Machzorim the Girsa is a bit different. There it says that Ashirus is a Segulah for Maftir Yonah...

I've heard from a bunch of places, tho I don't have a source that both MY and PN are big segulos, the former for children, the latter for wealth.

Mishnah berurah does say it's a big zechus to get an aliyah and Yomim Noraim and even if one has to pay, he should (he says adrabah, a mitzvah that comes with paying is even more valuable).

IINM, it's an aliyah during aseres yemei tshuva. No one bids on shlishi of Monday and Thursday during aseres yemei tshuva though (actually some places do, but it doesn't go for $k's).

I stand corrected. I had asked the Rov of the shul I sometimes daven shachris in during the week why the minhag is to sell everything throughout aseres yemei tshuva and he said it's this special inyan of getting an aliyah during this time. I just linked that in my mind to the aforementioned mishna berura, I wonder if there's another mekor that says all of aseres yemei tshuva.
