Whole house humidifier
« on: December 17, 2013, 12:52:37 PM »
So me and kids have awful eczema, Dr says its from dry air from the forced heat in winter.
Does anyone have a whole house humidifier installed, what are the pro's and cons and how much does it cost.
Also, my furnace is located in an unheated attic, can a humidifier even be installed there?

You should be able to install a humidifier into the duct that will get rid of the heater blowing dry air, sorry i don't know anymore but call an HVAC guy.

i have one in my house--from a long time ago ( 12-15 yrs) cost back then about $500 -- it a simple job for them to install , it is in my unheated basement -- did not find it did much good-- plus I have to remember to turn it of in summer as also connected with air cond  ducts and water will continue to drip --- now maybe they are much improved? if not -- save your money and maybe buy simple one for a room

I have a Honeywell whole house humidifier connected to my forced air
works perfectly for 7 years
I have a thermostat that controls humidity
To Humid and you risk mold - I turn it to 30-40 in the Winter and in the Summer I don't need it

+1, this is the way to go - a unit that gets installed into the ducts right where the forced air heat comes in, together with a thermostat that can also control the humidifier.
