CD/DVD drive usually need replacement they can't really be repaired if they don't work properly so figure $65-$85, Screen if its a standard screen I would imagine $125-$175

To change a laptop screen, is it as simple as buying it yourself online and watching a video on Youtube how to do it? Or can it be more complicated than that?

Usually pretty simple, some screens have screws that are a little more difficult to get to and need to be taken apart

My wife just cracked her screen today, and it seems pretty straightforward to do myself. Just want to make sure I'm not mistaken. Any advice where to get cheap screens, and do you recommend only buying the manufacturer's replacement screen?
Thanks.

Pardon my ignorance, I'm not sure the difference.  :)

The screen has a crack, and is all fuzzy now, so I want to replace it. Which one is that?

Take apart the screws and lcd bezel, read the model # of the screen then match it on ebay, should be good to go. It really isn't rocket science, if your the do it yourself type of guy - it's shouldn't take more than 10 min or so.
Be careful with side hinges that connect to the sides of the screen they are sometimes pretty flimsy and can crack easily. Also support the screen until it's even on both sides, you don't want to crack the hinges off the back of the bezel.

Don't overtighten the screws either.

Thanks. So I already did those things, took it off and checked the model # on ebay. I found it for $55, and for $42 used (from a top-rated seller). Any reason not to get a used screen?

What can I use to glue the rubber bumper strips back onto my laptop? There are concealed screws underneath so I don't think I can use crazy glue.
If you don't care why would you comment?
