I purchased a groupon a while ago and food and service was nasty!

Just yelp their review and you will see, most people thing the same way!

Is Yelp your Urim V'tumim? Is Yelp your final authority on reviews? You indicated that you visited Talia's about a year ago, I urge you to visit again and give a second chance to see how much the dining experience has dramatically improved. Besides, on this site, about a year ago, subscribers wrote the following:  Max wrote on May 14th:  "Been there many times, food is excellent staff is very friendly, and the owner always looks to please. I’ts a great deal!". Moreover, I suggest you look into the following current website reviews:
TripAdvisor: 4 out of 5 stars "Certificate of Excellence"
Google: 4 out of 5 stars
Foursquare: 4 out of 5 stars

I'm glad you stopped by. Why don't you tell us what has changed, and what is good. Here's your chance to convince us.

Perhaps you might start by explaining to us why you always give groupon diners a hard time about getting the side that usually comes with the entree.

B - You DO NOT need to tip what they suggest. That would defeat the purpose of the deal. Instead, pick an amount that you think is fair ($20-30?) and pay. This is what I personally do.

Good point. Waiter doesn't work harder just because you bought something more expensive than you usually would. You basically got it on sale, and it is fair for you to tip on the sale price.

You could also say the reverse. The waiter doesn't work less bc you got the groupon and are paying less.

We went to talia numerous times with the deal, I have to tell you the food is very tasty and the service,is as good like le Maria  or better!!!  The only difference here, tht you end up paying way cheaper then the other kosher places in town. The staff is friendly professional and in every way looking to please.   

I since went back even though I didn't have the deal, and I would definitely recommend this to any good friend.

Now that we are getting into the lumdis of the sugya, i would like to explain the pshat.

A waiter only gets paid based on tips because otherwise there would not be a motivation for them to satisfy customers. However, a 20 or 30 dollar tip for passing a few plates back and forth is generous enough in my books (i figure 1-2 hours worth of work x 5 tables they wait on at a time). They are easily making 50-100 a hour. i dont see why my order of even 500 dollars should give them a salary boost to 90 x 5 an hour. if i made that much money passing plates around, i would walk out rich from my shabbat table!

my wife tells me that i give math classes on this subject, but its really poshit pshat...

I went to Talia's and was really unimpressed with both the food and the service. There was one waiter for the whole place and it took forever to get our food which was ok but definitely not good enough to go back. If using a Groupon, I guess you get what you pay for. If no Groupon then completely overpriced for bad food and bad service.
