Does one have to give maaser on the miles and points he has, by donating a tenth to charities?
i think the halacha is, that one does not need to give maaser from what he buys, but he must give maaser from things he receives for free.
i assume that one does not need give masser from miles one earned from purchasing airplane tickets, as one can consider it as if he bought the miles together with the flight. Similarly, miles one earns on his credit card from purchases at the standard rate, for example one mile per dollar, one also does not need to give maaser from them, as one can consider it as if he bought the miles together with the product.
However miles one receives as a sign on bonus, for example when they offer you 25,000 miles after yous spend $1,000, should we consider it a gift in which case you would have to give maaser. Or a purchase that when you buy $1,000 worth of items you are actually purchasing $1,000 of items and 25,000 miles for $1,000. Even if the latter option is true, does one have to give masser when one purchases items well below its value, as one can consider it a profit?
