Standby at the airport

I have a Delta ticket and i wish to return the day before my scheduled flight, is there any way to make this happen without paying the $200 changing fee?
In fact I'm booked in C class, which I think has free date changes, but the rep spoke to told me that it was a discounted ticket so there is a fee for date changes

in the airport ive had success getting onto an earlier flight with no additional charge, never tried with delta though. ac aa ua have worked for me.

Usually at the airport you can have more luck. Maybe tell them you have an emergency of some sort and need to leave early. Speak to supervisor at the airport. They are usually more helpful than if it was over the phone.

in the airport is ALWAYS easier than on the phone. in the airport if theres a extra seat on the plane they dont care to switch you but on the phone they play by the rules(theres a change fee etc).
