united canceling ticket help?

3 days ago I purchased 4 tickets on united for Jan 30.(class "K") I then went and bought the delta $25 tickets. Is there anyway to cancel the united tickets?? On the phone they told me I can't get a credit voucher, since they are non refundable the only option is they will hold the credit amount of the tickets which I can use up to a year but only on the existing names of the passengers. (meaning I can't combine the amounts into 1 ticket).
Is there any way around this. I really don't want to cancel my Delta tickets!

If you can get some Dr. letter that you can't travel you may have luck.

I had luck getting refunded when I explained them that I bookes a way more expensive business class ticket with them (with miles :) )

A dr. note only gives you the full amount towards a credit for future flights, not your money back.
