My unpopular opinion is that both Shallot's and La Gandola (LA) are overrated and stand out due to lack of better options in their respective locations. But in terms of NYC comparisons, they are both like Abigaels (fine dining but lacking elements to bring them over the top).

I haven't been everywhere, but I've only been blown away by 3 places in the fine dining category - Mike's, Tierra Sur, and etc.

When I make it to RC, Barnea, and UN Plaza, I'll happily adjust my rankings accordingly.
When were you by Mike's ?
Since so many claim about overrated I will chime in as well that Mike's isn't anymore king ,and even close,I remember old good days when he was king , and so goes to much of those places mentioned that they are mostly overrated these days

The short ribs I make at home is much better ,
Asking me ,talking about food wise ,the loft is from top 5 ,unfortunately most of those top restaurants mentioned the food is nothing to go crazy about, forget about the service

Candidly, for its size, I think Teaneck's restaurants are pretty weak.  In a head-to-head with Crown Heights for example, it loses out by a wide margin.

I think that the meat restaurants are OK. The dairy restaurants are pretty mediocre and that's being generous.

Agreed. Mocha Bleu and Shelley's need to turn it around, and Rabbica is supposedly good, but is too small to really be on the map.

Sammys food is generally fine, but the service is horrendous for a counter service place. Like comically bad.

If someone remembers the high end nyc restaurant scene from 5+ years ago ,knows that most high end places these days are only high end based on the high end prices they charge , the scene got more modern but the quality and service are lacking and a true rip off , I was by Mike's 2 times in past 2 years and we were completely disappointed and felt we got ripped off and left even the food that wasn't edible, somehow people still rave about him

High end meat restaurant's wasn't about raw egg yolks ,raw tartare ,sushi , pizza, fleatbread, please pass the beef sir

see that where i disagree, part of the expensive price is the plating the way things are presented the very expensive ingredients they use like Truffle, Dry aged meat, these things are very expensive.
the problem is when restaurants that serve u OK food for the price of high end places, i dont mind spending $200 + on a meal if its A+++

When were you last at shallots?

My unpopular opinion is that both Shallot's and La Gandola (LA) are overrated and stand out due to lack of better options in their respective locations. But in terms of NYC comparisons, they are both like Abigaels (fine dining but lacking elements to bring them over the top).

Comparing Shallots to Abigaels is a sin.

I think that the meat restaurants are OK. The dairy restaurants are pretty mediocre and that's being generous.

Yup. Dairy is horrific. If it weren't for the meat ones we have, Teaneck would be worse than... Atlanta.

Agreed. Mocha Bleu and Shelley's need to turn it around, and Rabbica is supposedly good, but is too small to really be on the map.

Sammys food is generally fine, but the service is horrendous for a counter service place. Like comically bad.

We agree on Sammy's.  Perhaps the worst service I've ever encountered. It's almost as if they're doing us a favor to sell us food.  Mocha Bleu is not a distant second.

I thought shallots was substantially overrated and expensive for what it was. We'll have to agree to disagree. If I'm dropping $250 for a dinner for 2, I have a certain expectation that Shallot's did not meet, but Mike's and etc always have.

Wow the wiki really needs work. First trying to make sure I have a list of all places and tried to categorize them in one of 4 categories: high end, mid-tier (has waiter service), low end (no waiter service but enough seating to not just be a takeout place), takeout. Please comment if I'm missing anything or if you disagree on how I classified something, specifically on the ones with red question marks, as I've never been to those.

    Meat
    ETC. - high end
    Nobo - high end
    Estihana - mid-tier
    The Humble Toast - mid-tier
    Dougies - mid-tier
    Teaneck Doghouse - mid-tier / sports bar
    Noah's Ark - mid-tier
    Sender's Smoke Joint - mid-tier
    Shnitzel+ - low end
    Chickies - takeout/some seats
    Sababa - ?
    Yalla Teaneck - takeout/some seats
    Chopstix - takeout

    Pareve
    Sushi Metsuyan - mid-tier
    Rock n' Roll Sushi - takeout/some seats

    Dairy
    Mocha Bleu - mid-tier
    Shelley's - mid-tier
    Rabica - mid-tier
    Sammy's - low end
    Lazy Bean - low end
Poppy's - low end (although looks like a classic pizza place)
    Dunkin' Donuts - low end
    EJ's - classic pizza place
    Pizza Crave - ?
Little Italy - classic pizza place (inside grocery store)
