I think not.

It's the companies concern because they want you to buy a new one.

The plastic ages and doesn't have the same strength and flexibility to absorb the impact.

My disappointment:  I wanted to lend my old car seat to my daughter for her newborn until she got her own, but it's only a 3 point harness not a 5 point.  The actual safety was out-dated!

I think it's the breakdown of the foam in the carseat that's the concern.
