Yuo can say you heard that you can automatically get Gold status with SPG. They will probably contact SPG and get it setup for you.

May be easier to go through Amex Platinum. If need be, they will transfer you over to SPG and tell them.

I called amex plat and the transferred me to spg. Was very quick and smooth.

First it took me 3 calls: HUCA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second, tell them that you want to use their services more and you are trying really hard to get it.

Basically just sweet talk them until you get an agent that will do it. Just like i did...
