Dan's warning to DDF:
I hope people realize that any buying group or anyone else that gets merchandise in advance of payment can go south at any time. That's even if you get a check at the time of delivery.
X-posting as I don't want anyone to say that I never put a warning here.

A story that ended up in court - https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/DocumentList?docketId=iRcRHuyZUdOIx69D00a5XQ==&display=all&courtType=Kings%20County%20Supreme%20Court&resultsPageNum=1

I am one of the biggest buyers for buying groups, I have done millions in transactions and have sent to every group there is over the past 3 years. Most buying groups are okay, some scan in slower than others, some pay slower than others - most will lose a few packages over the year. You can research and find which are better for you.

However there is a bigger problem now with Amazon itself.  Amazon in the past has been great with any problems always ready with a refund for lost packages even if it was thousands of dollars. Lately Amazon has clamped down and has tagged these buying groups addresses  in their systems as "freight forwarder" and now no longer will fix any problem you have whatsoever. Doesn't matter what the problem is, even if it shows the package was never delivered, amazon will not help you in any way. Their copy and paste response will always be "this item was sent to a freight forwarder and we're unable to replace or refund the item. We recommend contacting your freight forwarder for more details, as we don't have any more insight or information regarding this matter, For more information about sending items via freight forwarders, please visit our Help Pages: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201117950." As well the amazon drivers either must know this or have been increasingly bad at delivering packages because the numbers of packages missing has gone up astronomically. Previously you would have very few packages missing, now the past 3 months I have had 59 "lost" packages. I now have over $15,000 of loses and some guy in Delaware is probably living the life with all the stuff he stole from me. I will survive, I have made a lot more than $15,000 over the years however just a warning to others here that things are not as they used to be and it really is no longer worth doing buring groups with all the loses piling up

I am glad you know the rules. What does the rules say about giving someone else your card to use?
im not sure why your acting silly, to get e professional is going to cost him a pretty penny,
The odds of him winning on his own are very high, now why bother?

If you give a CC to your housekeeper so that she can buy your groceries, and then she spends $15k on it buying jewelry, is that not an unauthorized charge? If you gave your CC to a girlfriend and told her to go crazy, but then asked her to stop spending after you broke up and months after that she spends $15k on it buying jewelry, is that also not an unauthorized charge?

But this is a different scenario because he opened an account under your name with your blessing, and that in itself is probably fraud. By providing him the information to perpetrate the fraud,  you are probably an accomplice with dirty hands, so I don't know how much weight that claim will have.

PS:This is just my 2c and not legal advise.

And why in the world would it be fraudulent for someone to open an account for you with your consent?

Because when you open an account, you need to read and approve their T&C, and several other disclaimers. And you are also claiming that you are you, and not someone else's agent.

Ok, so now this gets even weirder. After reviewing my credit report, this guy (or someone) is still making minimum monthly payments, through September (the most recent info available). Also, there is a dispute that was filed "FCBA dispute resolved - consumer disagrees", I have no idea what thats about. Finally, in Jul the balance was 3594, in Aug it was 50, and then in Sep its back up to 3498. Did he bounce a check?
I have no access to online, so I can't  see any statements.

It could be that your "friend" was never out to screw you, but he just got in over his head, so for now, he's disappeared but is continuing to make the minimum payments (probably using money he's borrowing from someone else in a scenario much like yours) while he tries to figure something out (which will never happen).

If he is honest he will lose.

No I do not
So call up citi and ask to send you some statements, you could get it by providing your SSN, and if you told him to stop and he used it anyway tell citi you dont recognize that charge, and let the person who charged it prove otherwise.

Then how is Citi even talking to you without this information? Your story does not add up.

SSN
You will need more than that. How about right address, security word on the account, listed phone numbers?

Why are you even getting Citi involved? They did nothing wrong, correct?

Citi takes away the money from the vendor or wherever it was charged

I have a social security number, and all my personal information. Why shouldn't they talk to me? Since when do you need a credit card number to talk about your accounts?

Personal info such as the billing address? The account phone number? The account password? Why would they think that you are anything but an ID theif?

The cards were originally mailed to my house. So my address and cell phone is registered by them.

The first thing I would do is simply try to get the online account reset so you can take a look at what is really going on.

Best buy actually requires each employee to have they're own number..
Is that the standard BG practice now? for each buyer to open their own "exempt" membership?
