Chase UR for car rental questions
« on: January 02, 2014, 12:29:41 PM »
Seems to be a good deal using the Chase UR site for car rentals.  But does anyone know how it works with insurance.  i usually use my Chase United MPE card for the insurance coverage, does anyone know if I use UR points if it covers the CDW? What if I pay some with points and some with my chase SP cc?
Separate but related, what are people's experience with Dollar?

Usually you must pay for the entire rental with a CC in order to be insured.

And I'm pretty sure that you'd just need to buy insurance, unless you can figure out a way how to initially put in on you CC and then, once your done, pay with the points.

The actual paid rate through chase UR seems to be better than what I have been getting through the rental sites.  Dollar and thrifty seem to be giving me cheaper rates through the UR site than through their site with whatever coupons I have found

So is it better to pay approximately $20 less through chase or go through the dollar website and use my united MPE?

If u sell the points its a bit more than that and if you use them differently it can be worth even more.

I had a reservation with Dollar for a crazy price through UR but cancelled. Reviews are horrible and a friend had a bad experience with them as well. Paid almost double to go with national. With executive status through amex plat, it's just a really smooth ride with National.

i found the cheapest quote through chase UR with dollar or thrifty (same thing)
i also saw bad reviews, but upon further review, they all seemed to be complaining about fees that were added on.  but if you pay through chase, its all taken care of and you know what you are getting yourself into

Using the UR for rentals is not the best deal, you are getting $0.012 pp like that.  But the paid rates through UR travel are really good.  They charged the same amount including taxes and fees that Costco was charging for the base rate.  And costco was the cheapest that I found by a long shot before that.

I currently have a reservation through UR travel for $65 for 3 days and through costco travel for $105 for 3 days.  Both are including all taxes and fees.  Not going until the 21st so will decide before then but I dont see why I wouldnt stick with the cheaper one.  All other things that I tried (all the codes for all the agencies) were much more expensive, cheapest being $160.

UR --YOU "PAID" with money or points ?-- I have used UR  a few times and found they offer under certain circumstances a better deal --- not just cars -- hotels sometimes are less points than starwood hyatt , PLUS  at times the UR point price includes breakfast --- also air on short trips ( inter europe ) are also many times  cheaper than United for economy -- biz is always more since UR assigns a dollar value to points used

I paid for my car reservation.  It was $65 or something like 5700 points (it was 1.2 cpp value), so I felt it wasnt a good use of points.  You have to use the cc you have access to UR through, I used my sapphire preferred which means I dont get the insurance coverage of the United card.
