Stay on Star Alliance or switch to oneworld?
« on: January 05, 2014, 09:40:18 AM »
First time posting....

I worked hard to get Gold this year on star alliance. I fly almost every week from NYC to CLT. United flights are ridiculously expensive. US Airways is reasonable. Now that US Airways is moving to oneworld, any suggestions on what to do?

I got in on the $145 tickets to Hawaii through delta. I am trying to get Delta to match my United status.

I'm thinking I should keep flying US Airways to CLT accruing miles on my United  account. Then after the AA merger, keep flying US Airways but accrue on my Delta account (hopefully I'll be gold). Will I get free upgrades?

Do you think that is the best approach? Any other suggestions.

David

Why not request a status match to AA once the merger is finalized, fly US, and retain AA status?

Thank you for the reply. Does AA match status? I only saw something about a challenge.

Thanks again,
David

Also, US flights don't accrue to Delta.

Ah. Right. That definitely won't work then.

What's the best way to match my United status to AA?

No matching to AA, you have to pay for a challenge.
Check out statusmatcher.com for more info about status matching airlines, hotel etc

Thats only if you are 1K on united or Diamond on delta, which doesn't help our friend here, as I he mentioned being a gold member...
