For the $60 rebate:

Activation is required prior to rebate redemption. This will require a valid credit card. A one-year subscription is included so this will not cost extra if you cancel the automatic renewal service.


1.  After receipt, activate online [totaldefense.com] or by installing. You card will not be charged but there will be a $1 authorization. During this process you will sign up for their automatic renewal service.

2.  Use the link on your account page to "Cancel Automatic Renewal Service" [totaldefense.com]. Doing this will not impact your rebate. You may receive an error if you try to cancel immediately after activation; try again in 10 minutes. Sometimes it may take up to a couple days for the error to clear up. Several users have had issues when trying to cancel with Internet Explorer. If the "Processing Request" message hangs for more than a few seconds, try another browser such as FireFox.

3. Submit rebate
- Double check your activation code when filling out the registration form. They do not validate the code at this point and a typo may cause your rebate to be denied.
- As requested, submit your Newegg invoice, not the packing slip, order confirmation, or anything from a third-party payment processor
- "Proof of purchase of Qualifying Bundle purchase" is your invoice showing both items.
- Avoid taping over the print on the Total Defense UPC. Acrylic tape can cause thermal labels like the Total Defense UPC to fade. Hot melt tapes Scotch brand packing tapes (except "moving & storage") do not cause this problem.

4. Track your rebate:
- You can use the "Check Rebate Status" link in the email titled "Rebate Registration Confirmation".
- You can also enter your information for the $60 rebate at totaldefense.4myrebate.com [4myrebate.com], but not at www.4myrebate.com.
- Your documentation should be received within a few weeks. If not you need to follow up ASAP.

7. One year from activation: subscription automatically expires without additional charges.

Is there any way to get around this deal I recently got the total defense from tiger direct on a rebate and at this time I have only one computer that has the software installed on it plus a tablet . I would love to get one of these routers with a rebate tx.

Don't install. Use a different email.  They just require the code in the software box.

In another thread (tiger direct) a new email without installation was recommended.
You can use a different cc for each email for each rebate.

With the total defense rebates I belive its 1 offer per month. Each rebate has an offer code, you can't do the dame code twice.
Im not sure why installing and switching email addresses is necessary.
You can just register with your code online and dont even need to download the program. I've used the same email more than once.

Its impossible to get the rebate without installing or buying a product directly from them.

I did do a basic install and then uninstalled after I submitted my rebate. Others reported not installing at all. 
BTW, I used a GC with very little left on it, which by now I made sure to spend.  So I don't have to deal with cancelling my account.
