Im assuming the framily plan has unlimited texting .  . .

Unlimited talk and text. Only limitation is data to 1GB with the base plan. Sounds like a great deal for you!

Here's the issue- you can't join a Framily plan if you are already a Sprint customer (the idea was to recruit new users so that would have been silly). However, if you are currently a subscriber you can start a NEW group, and all members at the same billing address are able to join that plan, so you should be all set and can even invite 3 more people (maximum of 10 per plan, however bill won't get lower than $25. But if anyone has to leave the plan for any reason, its nice to have an extra line or two to keep everyone's plan from going up).

Hmmmm.. . .I can I open a new plan (it'll require a credit pull, and not necessarily will I get approved for 10 or even 7 lines), but the main issue would be - the phone numbers would be "ported over" from sprint.

Will that still be considered a new customer?

"And for a limited time if you purchased a discounted phone prior to 1/10/14 and are not upgrade eligible, Sprint will waive the $15/mo/line service charge to move to the Sprint Framily Plan."
It looks to me that they'll let you convert from a reg pllan with a contract into the framily plan.

You can start a new group but you can't join someone else's if you are already a sprint customer.

But I believe you can port out to a different provider for a few days then come back to Sprint.

me and my cuz each have 4 lines we're looking to move over to this plan
He has we upgrade eligible lines and 2 not, all 4 of mine are eligible.
So can he convert his plan, and then I'll join?  Better yet, transfer of liability to merge all lines, then convert the pan

It's more than a few days - I think it's 45.

What if some of the phones on my plan upgraded before 1/10/14 and some upgraded after?

You could try it and find out for yourself, but every carrier handles roaming agreements differently. Sprint is famous for asking folks who roam too much to leave, it was a fiasco of sorts 5+ years ago. Not a sure thing and I am not aware of other carriers doing it (I'm not even sure Sprint still does that as aggressively as they used to, after the bad press it got them).

If I understand correctly, isn't this an easy way to get out of a Sprint contract? Just switch to a Framily plan and then you can cancel after a month. Or did I misunderstand?

If you are currently in a Sprint contract, you have to pay a $15 fee for every month you have left. That way people don't use this as a way out of your contract.

If you are out of contract (as I have been for 2+ years), you can switch to Framily without a problem.

If you have less than a year left to your contract they let you switch for free IME.

Supposedly it's a limited time promotion that they're waiving that fee.

New customers = no contract
Existing contract customers will have to finish off their contract.
It's regular Sprint service with 4g, lte. etc.

It was supposed to end Jan 10th (when the plan officially launched- basically, whoever was waiting for this plan would be allowed to switch without penalty).
But it seems some folks have managed to have the fee waived after that date, its a major YMMV however.
