It was supposed to end Jan 10th (when the plan officially launched- basically, whoever was waiting for this plan would be allowed to switch without penalty).
But it seems some folks have managed to have the fee waived after that date, its a major YMMV however.
I just joined last week and didn't have to jump through any hoops to waive the fee, the store representative just said it Bepshitus.

It says the fee is being waived very clearly on their site as of yesterday, as long as you didn't upgrade a phone after 1/10/14.

ah, guess they are extending that offer officially. I don't know how long until, but they clearly aren't planning on keeping it forever.
Would it be possible to sign up for a new sprint plan get a phone and then join this plan and pay just $40 a month?
If you find a group of 6 to join so that everyone's plan is $25 a month, and then add the fee or paying out your contract ($15 a month) I guess that equals $40.
But I'm not sure if they would also make you pay out the phone price on top of that. Meaning, right now if you are in contract and switch to Framily, they are technically supposed to charge you a fee for every month left in contract. If you want a new phone, you have the option to pay it out (depending on model, usually somewhere around $20 a month), so if you switched and bought a new phone, your monthly plan *could* be something like $60 ($25 for joing a group of 6+, $15 for contract payout + $20 for phone payout).

It sounds like you are suggesting joining a new plan with a new subsidized phone, and then switching to Framily and paying out the rest of your contract for only $15 more ($40 total, and thus avoiding a new phone fee). That might actually be a pretty solid deal, except that you probably have the keep the other plan long enough to extend past the trial period, otherwise I'm guessing they'll ask you to send the phone back (with any new plan you have a trial period to return without a penalty, usually something like 15 days or more). You'll also have to pay a pro-rated bill for the time that you had the phone under that trial period, however. So in the end, you might not actually be saving any money over just buying a phone and paying it out with a Framily plan ($25 + 20 monthly phone payment).

I started a Framily plan and already have 7 people on it.   Three more people can be added within the next 10 days, and will be happy to give my Framily account number to the first three that ask for it.

I am already paying the lowest amount for that plan, which is $25 monthly, for unlimited phone, unlimited texts, and 1 GB of data per line, so anybody that joins should get the same deal, and it won't cost me (or you) anything extra (besides the notorious amount of taxes that all cellphone providers seem to get away with).

You can upgrade to 3GB for $10, and unlimited GB for $20/month

Please PM me for the Framily account number - but only after you do your research and plan to use it - so this way other people that really need it can get it.

This plan does not include the device, so you have to buy your own.

I believe you have to pay an extra $10 for 1GB of wifi hotspot.

Maybe we should open a thread in the Deals section similar to the Prime sharing thread?

Correct, out of the 4 major US carriers, half are GSM (ATT, T-mobile) and the other half CDMA (Sprint / Verizon). The technologies are sadly not compatible with each other.
If you want to find a cheap gsm plan, maybe on one of the MVNOs that use that technology, perhaps check a thread like this one: http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=20899.0
