NY to Argentina, preferably with miles
« on: October 08, 2010, 02:03:16 PM »
Hi, I've tried searching these forums but haven't really been able to figure out an answer to my question.  I am interested in flying with my husband from NY to Argentina in December for 2 weeks. Dates can be slightly flexible, I was using 12/5 - 12/19.

I have miles on CO, DL, AA, BA, AMEX MR (+70k), SPG (63k).

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get a mileage ticket? I checked CO and it looks like 100k for ticket; DL, 90k.  AA I found for 60k (not great flight option).  I have seen discussion about LAN on the boards but I don't understand how that works.  Can anyone help me understand whether that is an option?
Many thanks

Whats wrong with the AA flight?
And what will you do with 2 weeks in Argentina?

You can signup at LAN.com to check their availability.
20,000 SPG=50,000 LAN.

Wouldn't BA only be 40K?

Thanks for the replies. The aa flight leaves late Sunday night so it wastes a day (I would prefer to leave Saturday night or Sunday morning) but it might be worth it.

Why would Ba be only 40k?

I thought Argentina is a big country with lots to do...maybe I will have to add to the trip another destination if that's not the case.

BA has north america-south america for 40K. great deal.
you can fly on any of their partners for that price-AA is pretty good for Nonstop. any flight that AA has availability for 60K you can get on BA for 40. (LAN also available for that price, not nonstop though)

I can see 4-6 days in Buenos Aires and 2 days in Iguassu, but then?

I have heard patagonia and calafate and bariloche are all amazing (all in the south) - amazing glaciers and hiking
