Their mileage programs or the actual flights?

VA have some good redemptions for short haul flights in Australia eg: SYD-MEL
Similar to BA

In regards to the actualy flights, the VA planes for USA-AUS (return) are much nicer then the Delta ones IME.

I don't think Delta charges fuel surcharges for flight redemption to the US on Virgin Australia.
