Reserve Award Travel On UA

Up until recently, (that's last time when I booked, a few months ago), you were able to search for availability on United, and when you found the itinerary that you wanted, you were able to RESERVE it, [only if you did not have enough miles in your account at the time, if there were enough miles in the account, you had to purchase it].

So process was simple. keep low balance in FF account, search for flights, when you find it, reserve it, they asked for a CC in order to reserve it, and you had a few days, usually 2-3 days, to transfer the miles from UR and complete the purchase.

Yesterday and today, I was searching for a ticket, and I noticed, that the Reserve Fare is not available when searching for a one-way ticket, the option only came up when I did a round-trip. when I searched for one way, they gave me an option of PURCHASING a fare lock for 7.99 for 24 hours or for 14.99 for 7 days, but not the free RESERVE option.

Is it something new? any workarounds?

A new and improved way to reserve one ways is simply to search it as an award, once selected on the review your flights page right click the "purchase this flight in economy button and open in new tab, go through to checkout page, and refresh the award page, and proceed to book, if it comes up with an error, press back and reselect the traveler by clicking edit traveler, and it will be reserved for you..

You used to be able to do it right on the screen, get an option of reserving the tickets till you deposit the miles into your account, they usually held it for two three days.

How do you add a partner on a one way flight?

you can do it through paypal, just use the paypal option for checkout, and before the final confirmation meaning before completing the purchase you close the ticket and then look in "My Accounts tab" u will see that their is a reservation on hold
when you are ready to purchase you do not need to use the paypal

Ash, this PayPal trick worked perfectly this evening. I needed to buy a couple of days before buying.  Thanks for sharing the trick!
