AA award flight cancelled

I had an AA award flight JFK-LHR for Sunday AM on 3/29. Just realized that AA canceled my flight and rebooked me to fly through Raleigh. Was really trying to leave Sunday AM or Motzei Shabbos. There are no AA flights in the morning so when I called to try and find a new flight the only thing offered was a Motzei Shabbos flight that was too early. There are some BA flights that have award availability both Sat and Sun but the 2 agents I have spoken to at AA said that they would have to charge the fuel surcharges and fees difference for an award flight.
From my reading of AA's policies (http://www.aa.com/i18n/agency/Booking_Ticketing/Reaccom/rule_240_80.jsp) it does say that you should be accommodated on an One World carrier but doesnt say anything about fees. Any suggestions on how best to proceed.
I can just give up and cancel or switch to Sunday night flight but it would be nice to figure out some way I could get on the BA flight without $500 in fees.

Same response on twitter that I have to pay taxes. I think I need to look for alternatives. There is a delta flight that I can book with Flying Blue if I can find enough Amex points.

Amex lets you borrow points to use now and pay back later when you earn them though spending or bonuses.

I didn't read the posts in this thread,  but Amex doesn't advance points anymore.
