I've been looking for this size TV from LG or Samsung for a while now and this seems like by far the best price, is buying a refurb a big mistake?

Depends who it was refurbished by.
If it's refurbished by the manufacturer, it's worth it. Refurb by 3rd-party is usually not.

Example:
By a huge company like Apple, I prefer buying an Apple Certified refurbished product over new. Since that means a "Specialist" went over the entire product and made sure it's in perfect condition before they resold it. Brand new just came off an assembly line with millions of other units.

Worst case, it breaks in a few months and you get refunded from Amex.

Thanks! I don't see who did the refurb. Do you see it? I also don't see a warranty for the TV, should I buy the Walmart 4 year for $45? Does that mean anything?

They look pretty good, this 47" also looks like a great price.

That looks nice but a little more than I want to spend.
Is the difference between 42 and 47 very significant?

They don't tell you who it was done by. Not sure about their warranty coverage.
"The returned products are then sent back to either a third-party refurbishment company or Walmart's own return centers for inspection, cleaning and, if necessary, repair."

The 47" is LED while the 42" is LCD.

If you're looking for cheap than this is a great deal from what I've seen. Question is whether to buy the 4 year warranty.

That's annoying.

And LED/LCD don't have a quality difference do they? Just size. No?

LED/LCD is a difference in the Lighting/Picture Quality.
Unless you're into having the latest and greatest, LCD is enough. You get what you pay for.

Regarding the warranty, what kind of coverage (if any) does your CC provide?

Only double what they offer, so if they don't offer any CC won't cover any. Maybe 90 days.

In that case it makes sense to get the additional coverage. For the $45 I wouldn't take the risk of it breaking. As with all warranties though, make sure you read exactly what it does and doesn't cover before agreeing to anything.

Once you're at that price point already, it may pay to put in the additional $50 and get the 47" LED from eBay (which also happens to be Brand New).
Bigger screen + better image quality + new instead of refurb.

Width can't be over 41", so 42" TV is really the max.

Thanks for the help!
